3-18 SS Troy 3

Troy McClain has been tracking a cougar through the snow for several hours in an attempt to get close enough to set his dogs loose in order to tree him. Well after a long tracking session, he summoned his partner. I walked it out as far as I could walk out. I said hey I got this old logging road that is covered in snow so  somebody come pick me up. So I radioed out. They come pick me up and I said somebody else walk this track out. I’ve got it fresh as I think it can be. So we switched it up, I had a buddy, he began to walk it out and he starts tracking the track. We have all heard the stories about how cougars are the most proficient killers in the Northwest. They are unbelievably stealthy. These animals can creep up on you without you even knowing it. So I jumped in the truck and said hey you walk it out a little bit more, before we set the dogs loose and he starts walking it out and as he’s walking these tracks, he’s following  cougar track, following cougar track and the cougar track started looping around, started making 180° turn and as he’s following this big U-turn, pretty soon he gets onto my tracks, tracks that I was walking on the cougar, and the cougar’s tracks are in my tracks. As he keeps walking it out he gets onto his tracks back to where we met on the road and that cougar must have been up in the tree and then circled back around and followed me of the old time and then following him. In the end, Troy got the dogs involved, found the cougar in a tree, and just took pictures.
