3-16 SS Troy 1
Hey Everyone….Tracking cougars next. Talked to a good friend and talented outdoorsman the other day. Troy Mcclain got famous on Donald Trump’s show the Apprentice but that doesn’t mean that boy can’t hunt… cougars. It all started with where he came from:I was born in Alaska and raised in Montana and my grandfather has been cougar hunting for years so it was kind of a tradition that was passed on. The two dogs that he used was the black and tan and the Walker and I believe that the walker is the best scent hound out there. Black and tans got a lot of guts to it but I just love using those walkers. I moved to Idaho 13 years ago and I moved without dogs, I tried to convince my wife we needed hound dogs and she said no she doesn’t want to ruin in the backyard area. So I definitely have established friends with dogs. A good friend of mine from Idaho has two walkers. So we went out toward the Owyhees and we were getting on a trail and most of you who know about cougar hunting know that the first thing you try to do is find a track. And you try and stomp that track out and freshen it up if it’s old and you don’t let your dogs loose right away. What you do is you are driving the road early, early in the morning and it’s colder than heck, and nobody wants to get out and check the track because that’s not the fun part. The fun part is chasing the cat but the boring part is getting out and chasing track for the first time, nobody wants to do it. Well my friend said get out there and chase that track, chase that track
Troy chased and wait till you hear how it went…tomorrow.
