12-13 SS IDFG Danger

A little shout out to Idaho Fish and Game for their brave work.

In the Upper Snake Region the majority of big game seasons are over so Idaho Department of Fish & Game will now begin to use choppers for wildlife management work, taking care to avoid those areas where hunts may still be open. Obviously hunters who are stalking and scoping elk, moose, muleys and the like don’t want their efforts interrupted by low flying aircraft buzzing around. Along with trapping work, hired helicopters are also used to conduct aerial surveys of various big game populations. Here’s Gregg Losinski from IDFG:

All of this work requires low-level flying that can be extremely dangerous. Over the last decade, situations have developed that not only resulted in close calls with minor injuries to Department personnel, but unfortunately the untimely deaths of three biologists and two hired pilots."
