3-28 SS You Tube Outdoors

Well it’s finally happened, YouTube meets the outdoor world.  Hi everybody this is David Sparks, Sportsman’s Spotlight is next.  Officials at  Fish and Game around the Northwest are getting smart. They’re using social media to reach hunting and fishing enthusiasts. Here’s Fish and Game spokesperson Greg Luzinski. What were doing is trying to get out to as many folks as possible. In the old days we would have meetings wherever possible, we would go to community centers, we’d still like to do that but we were finding out that we were meeting fewer and fewer folks and trying to make decisions based on very little input. So by putting  things on YouTube which seems to be a place where everybody wants to go which includes both young and old folks we’re able to get that information out there and also put a link on there so folks can comment back to us and we’ve increased our reporting by a magnitude of about 10 times. And also to help supplement the fact that it’s on YouTube we’ve used Twitter to let folks know that they can go to YouTube.  We’re using all the social media out there possible to get the word out. Greg exactly what you mean when you say get the word out? In this case were talking about our big game populations. We had a biologist go through all the material, charts and graphs that he would normally go through in a public meeting, but broken out by species so that a person could go to YouTube and click on black bears or elk or mule deer or whatever they wanted,  they could get as little or as much as they want at their own pace. On YouTube you can stop, you can review charts, you can hit the print button, it’s a way of providing information where folks can really analyze it at their own pace.
