I visited Winterhawk Outfitters in western Colorado's Flat Tops Wilderness of the majestic Rocky Mountains for a television show where I met guide and hunter Eddie Sanchez. I figured that since deer season is basically here, you'd enjoy this story. It is a special hunt that Colorado gives out for this area. I have been putting in for that license for 6 years and I drew it this year. I hunted the 2nd week of bow season by myself and I shot a really nice mule deer. I scouted for a few days looking for a nice animal that I wanted to harvest. I knew what I was looking for. I did not want a small mule deer, I wanted something nice. This license took me 6 years to acquire so I didn't want to take the 1st thing that came along. The 5th day into my hunt, I saw this really nice mule deer skirting the bottom of some cliffs. I got to see him for about 6 seconds and he was in full velvet. I tried to figure out where he had gone and where he might be living so on the 8th day I went into this one particular area, I just started glassing. I wasn't there 5 min. when he appeared. It went from spotting him with binoculars to putting the rifle on him to shooting him all in about 6 seconds. It was probably one of the biggest mule deers that has been taken out of this camp. He scored 190 and 3/8. His measurements are 32 and 3/8 wide outside to outside.
