Potato Growers Sought to Farm in Fiji

As a potato grower, if two of your New Year’s resolutions were to expand your potato operation and to travel more — consider the South Pacific island of Fiji for your potato expansion. The Fiji Trade Commissioner Jay Singh had a booth at the Potato Expo looking for potato growers to come grow potatoes in Fiji.
Singh: “For as much as an investment as low as $125,000 you’ll start gaining a five-year tax holiday. About a half-million investment will buys you a seven-year tax holiday and a million dollar investment will get you a 13-year tax holiday for potato farming. We here here to promote that because we don’t have a large commercial potato industry in Fiji right now. So we are here looking into the future to improve our food security and also to reduce the large import bill we have for food. We also are advising growers here that there is also a larger Pacific market which can be supplied with potatoes from Fiji. We sit right between five continents so you could also be reaching out to the Asian markets from Fiji.
Singh added that they did have good interest from some of the growers they spoke with. If you are interested in learning more go to fijitradela.com
