Washington Organic Week
Washington Organic WeekI’m Lacy Gray with Washington Ag Today.
Connecting consumers with organic farmers, their products, and the organic industry is what Washington Organic Week, otherwise know as WOW, is all about. Michele Catalano, Executive Director of the Tilth Producers of Washington would like to invite everyone to join in celebrating WOW September 7 through the 13.
CATALANO: We’re going to be highlighting information for shoppers to make them understand why they should be eating organic, why Washington organic tell a lot of history about our organic industry in the state, which is quite wonderful and quite special. Tilth Producers has had a role in that history from the 1970’s when we began in getting organic certification started with WSDA in having our own organic food program in the state. So it’s our way to better connect our counterparts in the food system and the organic industry in the state with consumers.
Consumers can once again show their support for Washington organics by taking the “Eat Organic for WOW” pledge.
CATALANO: We encourage everyone to go and take the pledge. Make that commitment to buy and eat organic food, shop at farmers markets, co-ops and retailers that highlight Washington organics and use that as an opportunity to start becoming more aware of what’s available in our region.
All “Eat Organic” pledgers will receive daily tips and recipes to help them eat organic, and will automatically be entered in a drawing to win prizes at the end of WOW week.
Tomorrow Catalano will talk about the popular WOW tasting event that gives attendees an opportunity to sample chocolate and drink pairings featuring the best of Washington’s organic beer and cider.
That’s Washington Ag Today.
