Taking The Pledge
I'm Lacy Gray with Washington Ag Today.
The 4th annual Washington Organic Week hosted by Tilth Producers of Washington kicked off on Saturday in a new way with a fund raising "Blast Off Party" at the Hedlin Family Farms in La Conner. Tilth Producers Executive Director Michelle Catalano says there's another new piece to Washington Organic Week this year, the "Eat Organic For WOW" pledge.
CATALANO: This is a way through social media for people to engage with tilth producers and understand more about eating organic. So, if you take the pledge you'll get information on resources and other aspects of organic products as well as recipes and information - things to make it easy for you to participate and understand the value of organic.
Besides the feel good of taking the pledge and the information and resources gleamed from doing so, there's an added bonus for pledge takers.
CATALANO: We're looking for people to tell us how it went for them, and to submit a small questionnaire at the end of the week and be entered to win prizes - including a year of Organic Valley products.
During the week they are also doing "Eight days, Eight ways" an educational part of the WOW campaign that focuses on a different aspect of organic agriculture and the organic industry each day of the campaign. Washington Organic Week wraps up on Saturday with the annual and very popular Beer, Cider & Chocolate Tasting in Seattle.
CATALANO: We've got Alpenfire Cider, Fish Tale Brewery, which is new for us this year, Elliot Bay Brewery, and we'll be having organic chocolates from Theo, which is where we'll be hosting the event from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m..
