Food & Wine

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and today is Food & Wine pairing day. On this program I am going to share some recent inspirations for using the garden fresh produce now in season and of course the wines that go with them.

The onions this year have been gorgeous and I have especially gotten into grilling or caramelizing them for sandwiches. One great sandwich is made by combining savory pulled pork, caramelized onions and sautéed apples together between a toasted ciabatta roll. This is fabulous for lunch or a casual dinner with Cabernet Franc of Cab Franc Rose. Grilled onions and apples are also fabulous with grilled zucchini, roasted red peppers and goat cheese. The combination over a square of grilled polenta cries out for  a slightly chilled Gamay Beujolais. Speaking of zucchini combine grated zucchini with an egg, some ricotta cheese and Italian breadcrumbs; form into patties and pan fry them. Serve with a squeeze of lemon and crispy Sauvignon Blanc for a wonderful side to grilled chicken sausages. My green beans haven’t been as good as usual so I have been buying them at the farmers market. I steam them and toss them with olive oil and sundried tomatoes, making them a very nice compliment to grilled flank steak and Syrah. There are some fabulous grilling cookbooks with good ideas for things to do with vegetables. Be inspired by the bounty use your imagination and lots of fresh ingredients, and thank you for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
