Food & Wine

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and today is Food & Wine pairing day. A couple of days ago I talked about one of my favorite summer wines Gewurztraminer. Today I want to share some of the foods you might enjoy with it.

Gewurztraminer can be made in many different style and the drier styles are often very good with seafood such as crab. I have enjoyed it with crab cakes and crab salad. One combination you may want to explore is a seafood salad with tropical fruits such as mango and papaya included. This is spectacular with a chilled Gewurz. The semi sweet styles lend themselves well to spicy Asian preparations. Think chilled noodles with chicken and hot spicy peanut dressing. Yum! Sliced fruit such as peaches, apricots and tropical fruits served with biscotti make a fabulous and simple dessert on a warm summer evening. If you are a fan of the stilton cheese with has lemon, or mango or pear or any fruit combined into the cheese this is a wine that is a marvelous accompaniment to those cheeses. Gewurztraminer is also a lovely ingredient to chilled summer fruit soup served as a starter or as a dessert. There are lots of recipes on line. I made one with strawberries orange juice and fresh lime juice which was good but became spectacular once I added a cup of Gewurztraminer to the mix.  So there you have it, some unusual and surprising combinations for food and wine. Enjoy! Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
