If you want a book a trip and get in the best outfitter for Western big-game hunting, you have to give Mike Jenkins of "Up Front Outfitters" very serious consideration. He knows more about big-game than anyone I know. "Mule deer season starts October 11. There are two separate areas and one runs until October 19 and the other area is open until October 26. Our elk season on the west side for Roosevelt opens for rifles November 1. It runs until the 12th or 13th. Our elk season on the west side for Roosevelt opens November 1. It runs until the 12th or 13th. They are a species of elk that lives only west of the Cascades so that is where they originated and now the only true Roosevelt left our west of Interstate 5 right along the Pacific Coast of Washington, Oregon, up into British Columbia and as far as Alaska. The rest of the Roosevelt elk population has been introduced to the Rocky Mountain elk so there is a cross or sub species now of what they call a cascade Roosevelt. Their antler size is smaller than Rocky Mountain but their bodies are bigger, in fact they are the largest elk species. A mature bull can weigh up to 1200 pounds.
