270 or 30-06

Deer and elk season are upon us here in the great Northwest, and there is something of a dilemma or question that some guys who are not married to their present rifle might encounter. If you are going to hunt for both deer and elk this season, and you have a budget for one rifle, what would it be? I have gone hunting on my Outdoor Channel show with guys who absolutely swear by a 270. Other guys have other opinions. So I picked up the phone and called the Sportsman's Warehouse Store in Medford, Oregon. I asked for the hunting department and I got Tony Baker. I'll let you decide about his expertise. " There are so many different rifles out there and even in combinations where you can buy a rifle and a scope so it is going to come down to personal preference mostly but one of our more popular options is going to be the Remington Model 700. A good all-around caliber is going to be a 30-06. I hear guys talking about a 270 all the time. It is almost the same cartridge except one is a 27 caliber and the other is a 30 caliber. The 30-06 is going to give you a wider range of bullets and a little bit heavier bullets. It is probably going to be a little more efficient as far as being a single all-around cartridge where you can shoot deer and elk and a little bit more efficient on the elk end than a 270. A little bit bigger bullet is available to the shooter. If we are reloading, we have a wide array of bullets in both but a wider array in 30 caliber.
