Consider Improving Your Cattle Handling Skills

Next week is the Pendleton Cattle Baron's Weekend. There is plenty going on in the Round-Up city throughout the entire weekend. On Friday morning, the Umatilla County Cattlemen's Association is hosting a Low Stress Cattle Handling demonstration. The event will be held at the Round-Up grounds begins with breakfast at 8:30 and then will have a two hour demonstrating of low stress cattle handling with stockman Curt Pate.

Umatilla County Cattlemen's Association President Clint Sexson asks ranchers to challenge their normal way of handling cattle and come to the workshop and learn.

Sexson: "Get people to think about how cattle handling relates to BQA. Are there ways we can improvise the way we handle cattle to have better Beef Quality Assurance? Sometime you are use to doing something the same way for so along — we take for second nature that's the way we are going to do it."

By participating in this event, beef producers will be able to become BQA certified.

Following the handling demonstration, Genex will be showing their portable chute-side service and Artificial Insemination demonstration.

Sexson says that the event will be well worth participating ranchers' time.
