With the Fruit Grower Report I'm Susan Allen the Washington Apple Education Foundation pays it forward in so many ways. For example 2016 Sunnyside High School graduate Esteban Garibay was the Grand Prize winner in the 21st Annual Washington Apple Education Foundation Year of the Apple Art Contest sponsored by Dow AgroSciences. Garibay received a check in the amount of $1000 for his efforts and will see his artwork published on the 2017 Dow AgroSciences calendar poster. The art contest is open to all students in grades 9th – 12th in Adams, Chelan, Douglas, Okanogan, Grant, Benton, Franklin, Kittitas, Yakima and Walla Walla counties. This year 130 students submitted entries into the contest. Students may submit entries in a variety of traditional artistic mediums.2017 Year of the Apple poster calendars will be available December 5th-7th at the Dow AgroSciences booth at the Washington State Tree Fruit Association Annual Meeting in Wenatchee

Here is Jennifer Witherbee, Executive Director of the Washington Apple Education Foundation with another upcoming event.

Witherbee: The third (WAEF) sponsored ESL providers' forum will occur on Thursday, September 29th in Ellensburg from 10am-2pm. This event will be facilitated by Wenatchee Valley College Director of Transitional Studies Aaron Parrott. This is the second time Mr. Parrott will serve in this role. In addition to facilitating conversation, Mr. Parrott will lead a session on developing custom curriculum to meet participant needs. This year WAEF awarded $16,500 to organizations in fruit growing communities to support English As A Second Language (ESL), basic education and citizenship preparation courses. In all instances, dollars were granted to organizations that focused on the farmworker community in their program outreach. For more information on the ESL providers forum contact Jennifer Witherbee, Executive Director of the Washington Apple Education Foundation.
