WSU's Tree Fruit Research Vision
WSU’s Tree Fruit Research Vision. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.
BERNARDO: I’m a pretty frank speaker and I’ve said this even outside of the tree fruit community that the tree fruit industry has received and continues to receive more financial support from WSU, new financial support than any other industry in Washington agriculture.
Bernardo was speaking at the annual hort meeting and he says that support is because of a great need in the industry.
BERNARDO: We believe that it’s important to make that investment for a variety of reasons but the most important one is that there is an incredible need and many of the solutions to these issues are really around research and education.
WSU is one of the top 3 universities when it comes to research and Bernardo says what that really means.
BERNARDO: I think first of all we’re a leader in discovery so we have to be not only thinking about today’s solutions in your orchards but we need to be thinking about the solution 20 years out. That really is an important part that the public university, the land grant university has to lead in.
That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
