Court Deals Blow to HSUS War on Animal Agriculture

A U.S. District Court Judge has dismissed the lawsuit filed by the Humane Society of the United States over the National Pork Board’s purchase of the “Pork, The Other White Meat” trademark from the National Pork Producers Council.

HSUS argued the sale and payments were unlawful because the National Pork Board is prohibited from using checkoff dollars to influence legislation. But the court ruled the plaintiffs lacked standing and that no one had suffered any injury from the Agriculture Secretary’s approval of the trademark purchase.

NPPC President Randy Spronk says If he was an HSUS donor he’d be very disturbed that his money was wasted on another expensive lawsuit that had nothing to do with improving the welfare of farm animals

Spronk: “I think what agriculture needs to realize is these are tactics that they use to denigrate agriculture. They used it poultry industry. They’re using it against pork industry. This isn’t just about animal agriculture -- this is about corn and soybeans farmers and crop framers -- the end users of their product are being attacked. If the agenda of the Humane Society continues to be brought forward, it’s going to damage all of agriculture.”

That’s why Spronk says it’s important for everyone to realize these tactics the HSUS is using and what their true agenda is. He says HSUS leadership has made their mission to permanently end animal agriculture very clear.
