Heating up the month with Chile Peppers

Heating up the month with Chile Peppers

September is here! And Colorado Department of Agriculture is heating things up by showcasing Chile Peppers this month as the highlighted commodity as Marketing Specialist Wendy White shares
White: “You know that the Pueblo area is very well-known for a variety of peppers — the Marisol and the Moscow they grow well. But they do a wide variety of chile peppers. This time of year, the roasters come out and you get that wonderful aroma and it just brings people in. They get so excited about getting their Colorado chile peppers roasted and ready to go for all kinds of ideas.
White continues with where to go if you need some recipe ideas.
White: “At coloradoproud.org we have a wide variety of recipes using local ingredients. This month’s recipe is Kickin’ Chicken Flat Bread Pizza that features a couple of different varieties of peppers. So it is really a spiced up version of a pizza and it sounds great.”
She adds that coloradoproud.org has plenty of tips for picking produce, recipes and crop calendar and a lot of helpful information to connect consumers with local producers.
In addition to adding a spicy flare to recipes, jalapeños are also nutritious. They are low fat, sodium free and are an excellent source of Vitamin C. Look for Colorado chile peppers at your local grocery store, farmers’ market or at restaurants across the state.
