Idaho Wolf Management Receives Boost from a RMEF GrantIdaho Fish and Game (IDFG) accepted a $50,000 grant from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation to assist with its wolf management plan. To properly and effectively carry out science-based management practices, the funds will increase IDFG's knowledge of interactions between wolves and elk, and expand the radio collar program to help managers gain a better understanding of pack and territory size, home range, and other biological traits and actions of the wolf in order to better implement effective management techniques.Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation President, David Allen: "We made the donation to the state of Idaho towards Wolf management for much the same reason that we made the same donations to the state of Montana and the state of Wyoming. We are very serious about supporting strong state-based management of all predators including wolves. What we anticipate will be done with the funding, at least in part, will be to purchase more collars to put on wolves and get into the wolf packs, to give us a more accurate count and where the wolves are traveling, where they are living, and what impacts they are having on elk herds and elk numbers. That is the primary reason that we decided to grant the $150,000 in total with $50,000 going to each of the three states.
