I'm Bob Larson. A workshop in Eastern Washington is coming next week to help producers brush up on their skills with "Food Safety in Specialty Crops."

Hosted by the Center for Latino Farmers, with support from the Washington Department of Agriculture, outreach specialist Maria Giedra says it'll be a great workshop packed with helpful information ...

GIEDRA ... "We are searching for farmers and ranchers who are producing specialty crops and also farm workers who are in transition to farm ownership. And, we would like to invite them to come join our workshop. It's going to be in Pasco at the CBC college (Colubia Basin College) and it's going to start June 25th all the way through the 28th. It's going to be a 20-hour session and everybody is welcome."

And, Giedra says the workshop will cover an array of topics ...

GIEDRA ... "Good agriculture practice, regulations through federal state and county conservation practices, the definition of specialty crops, what are specialty crops, what are grants and incentives for farmers and ranchers who want to take advantage of these incentives. We have pesticide safety, farm audits, risk on your farm and farm equipment, and international exports."

The workshop runs evenings next week, Monday thru Thursday. Registration is required, but easy by calling the Center for Latino Farmers at 509-453-3157.

Tune in tomorrow for more on this informative workshop

their target audience and the importance of staying informed.
