Welcome to Washington Ag Today, I’m Susan Allen. WSU Researchers from several different disciplines teamed up to study Grapevine leafroll disease and it’s effects on the quality of wine. This virus has been a nightmare for vineyards for generations and the team wanted to understand how the virus impacts the quality of the grape and ultimately the wine. After three years of study on over 1600 lbs of grape. Wine from the affected grapes had lower alcohol and coloring agents than those from healthy vines. The study was recently published in in PLoS ONE. And your favorite sliced apples are now easier to handle and store if you buy them at Costco.

Krista Jones from Crunch Pak explains the new packaging.: The Costco product organic mini bags used to come in a clam shell but this year we designed a bag that holds all the mini bags, it’s got a handle, it doesn’t take as much room in the refrigerator as the big clam shell. It s a bright coral red color, if you are in Costco you will see those stacked on a pallet to replace our clam shells.

I know we talked in length about what a great favorite they are with kids but I bet you didn’t know what a wonderful healthy horse treat they make as well. In fact one slice is the perfect incentive to get Buckwheat the pony to perform his tricks….well maybe two fresh apple slices. I’m Susan Allen with Washington Ag Today.
