Supporting TPP

Supporting TPP. I'm Greg Martin with Washington Ag Today.

A recent poll conducted here in Washington State shows the state supports the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Ashley Dutta with the Washington Council on International Trade explains the poll.

DUTTA: We did this poll because we felt that there is a strong majority of people out there who support trade and support TPP and especially in Washington where we are the most trade supported state, we felt that people understand that even though there's so much negative rhetoric about trade in this presidential election season but we felt the majority of the people aren't buying into that but we didn't have any numbers to prove that.

She says the results really were what they expected.

DUTTA: 54% of people in Washington State of registered voters do support the TPP and only 23% are opposed, the rest of them were undecided but if you look at the 23% who were opposed, when they're educated about what's actually in the TPP, 54% of them said they were willing to change their minds about it and be supportive.

And she gives us a quick breakdown of the numbers.

DUTTA: In the Eastern part of the state, 56% of people supported TPP. Over in King County it was 60%. In the North Puget Sound area it was 56% and 53% in Pierce and Kitsap Counties. 58% of Democrats and 56% of Republican's were supportive of the TPP.
