More On Trade Mission

More On Trade Mission. I'm Greg Martin with Washington Ag Today.

The Governor's Trade Mission to Korea and Japan continues and the ag industry is being represented by members of the potato, blueberry and wine industries. Ag Director, Derek Sandison is along for the trade mission and check in recently.

SANDISON: South Korea is the number five export partner for Washington agricultural products. The state came though working with the potato commission, the blueberry commission and the U.S. Plant and Animal Health Inspection Service to help convince Korean officials to get Washington table potatoes and fresh blueberries into the Korean market. Along the way also promoting the sales of Washington wine in the Korean market.

One thing they are doing is seeing how consumers are finding these products.

SANDISON: Finally we've been observing how Korean outlets like Costco of Korea are marketing and displaying Washington products so we can report to folks back home the nature of those marketing efforts

30 percent of everything grown and produced in our state bound for export. Sandison said that Japan is our largest trading partner for agricultural products, consumer demand is quickly growing in South Korea for our products

And that's Washington Ag Today. I'm Greg Martin, thanks for listening on the Ag Information Network of the West.
