Washington Organic Week

Washington Organic Week

Washington Organic Week.I'm Greg Martin with Washington Ag Today.

WOW! or Washington Organic Week is an annual campaign that connects consumers to Washington organic growers and products. It gets underway on Sept 12th. Michele Catalano, Executive Director for Tilth Producers talks about how it got started..

CATALANO: Some years ago there was a lot of discussion on how to help farmers reach consumers and help consumers understand the value of organic production across the state. Markets have changed a lot in the last few decades and a buy Washington organic campaign came into being as a way to encourage the purchase of organic foods, both fresh or processed grown here in Washington State.

She says that has morphed into Washington Organic Week.

CATALANO: How we've approached it is it's our opportunity to support the many organic farmers that make up our membership and our community while helping to make those connections to consumers and educate them about the value of organic food from a health standpoint, from an environmental standpoint, local economy, all sorts of different attributes that we address each of the days over the course of the week.

There's a different topic addressed each day.

CATALANO: We focus the week in two directions. One for two in-person events here in the Seattle area but also we give people all across the state an opportunity to participate and get information by taking the pledge to eat organic for WOW!
