Experience International

I’m Lacy Gray with Washington Ag Today.

As an official sponsor of the U.S. Department of State’s J-1 program Experience International, a non-profit organization located in Everson, provides international professionals and students an opportunity to be placed into short-term positions in agriculture, business, science, forestry, fisheries and natural resource management and conservation in the U.S., where they will gain experience for career and skill development along with a cultural and technological exchange. Sarah Pearson, Director of International Training and Exchange Programs at EI, says that they are always on the lookout for high-quality hosts who can provide a “cutting edge and educational experience for interns and trainees”. In particular, a farm placement is needed for June-September for a French student studying agricultural engineering in France, who grew up on a farm and has experience with tractors, combines, harvesters, and forklifts.

PEARSON: So this would be an actual working internship through the J-1 visa. He would ideally love to work and help and learn at a potato farm; he’s also very interested in onions, or any kind of row crop - field crop.

Pearson says interns are very willing to watch and learn.

PEARSON: And that’s what’s exciting about these folks; they’re very motivated, and they’re curious. They tend to be very ambitious and hardworking and really want to get as much out of the experience as they can. So they really do contribute to the overall success of the company and provide new ideas and new energy, and of course bring the cultural exchange component as well.
