This week marks the fourth annual Idaho Organic Week, when Idahoans from across the state will join together to celebrate the importance of organic producers, processors and distributors in Idaho. I chatted with ISDA spokesperson Kim Polzin: "Idaho has over 230 organic operations that provide a diverse selection of products including vegetables, meat and dairy products, as well as non-food crops such as hay and barley.

Organic production is an important segment of Idaho agriculture that generates over $50 million in sales.  Idaho ranks in the top 15 in the nation for the production of several organic commodities, including barley, hay, potatoes, grapes, beef, wheat and oilseed.

Several producers, retailers, farms and other organizations have joined ISDA in the effort to showcase Idaho's diverse organic products and highlight Idaho organic producers. Organic advocates across Idaho are encouraged to celebrate the bounty of Idaho agriculture by shopping for organic products at your local farmers market, choosing Idaho organic products at restaurants and retailers near you, or by hosting your own special event or promotion.
