Agribusiness Update for Tuesday 09/1/15

A recall of pork products stemming from salmonella from whole-hogs now includes more than 523,000 pounds of pork, expanding from an earlier recall. The Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the expansion from Kapowsin meats in Washington State. FSIS has been testing the facility since an illnesses outbreak recently and the federal agencies deemed sanitary improvement efforts were insufficient. The establishment has voluntarily suspended operations. The product was shipped to individuals, retailers and distributors in Alaska, Oregon and Washington. In all, 152 illnesses have been confirmed stemming from the salmonella contamination.

The Taiwan Flour Millers Association will be in Washington, D.C. in mid-September to sign a letter of intent to purchase U.S. Wheat. Delegates from TFMA will start their visit to the United States as honored guests of the Idaho Wheat Commission. After completing formal activities in D.C., the flour millers continue their part of the mission with visits to Kansas, Montana and Washington to meet with state wheat commission and government representatives before returning to Taiwan.
