This is the Agribusiness Update...I'm Greg Martin...

As the U.S. House works this week on the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act, a coalition has pledged their support for the bill. The Coalition for Safe and Affordable Food, an industry group that supports the bill, said 475 groups are backing it. The groups maintained that the No-GMO labeling program in the bill will create a uniform; transparent labeling standard for foods made with GMOs and protect consumer choice and science-based labeling. Groups like the National Farmers Union and the Organic Trade Association oppose the bill.

The National Corn Growers Association announced the investment of an additional $500,000 to an innovative program called Prime the Pump, which seeks to expand fueling infrastructure capable of delivering higher blends of ethanol fuel to American consumers. This increases the NCGA commitment to $2 million in the last year.  Prime the Pump will use the funds pledged by corn farmers as matching funds to secure grants under the recently announced program by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  USDA's Biofuel Infrastructure Partnership is making $100 million in grants available.

That's today's Agribusiness Update from the Ag Information Network of the West.
