Agribusiness Update for Tuesday 12/16/14

This is the Agribusiness Update...I'm Greg Martin...

A recount has confirmed Oregon's GMO labeling ballot initiative was voted down in November. The final tally confirmed the initiative lost be 837 votes out of 1.5 million cast. Yes on Measure 92, the campaign in favor of labeling has admitted defeat, but pro-labeling advocates said the closeness of the election made them determined to continue the battle both in the states and in Washington.

U.S Trade Representative Michael Froman said last week that Republican support for trade is encouraging for the White House's ambitious agenda. He said trade issue has always required bipartisan support and cooperation. While the President is getting support from Republicans; there has been plenty of pushback from within his own party. House Democrats say they have and will retain plenty of opposition to fast-track authority and Trans-Pacific Partnership in the next Congress.
