This is the Agribusiness Update...I'm Greg Martin...

With the smallest beef herd in the U.S. since the 1950's, imports of beef from Australia are expected to rise for the 2014-15 marketing year. A Report by the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences indicated imports of Australian beef and veal will jump 35 percent, to 360,000 metric tons to the U.S. That would amount to the highest volume since 2004-2005. The U.S. bought some 35 percent of Australia's beef and veal exports in the first four months of 2014-15, compared with 19 percent in the year-earlier period.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is publishing a rule that outlines how it will improve the Environmental Quality Incentives Program, one of USDA's largest conservation programs. The interim final rule includes program changes authorized by Congress in the 2014 Farm Bill. USDA has established a 60-day comment period for the rule. The rule is expected to be available in the Federal Register and regulations.gov on Friday, Dec. 12. Public comments can be submitted through regulations.gov or by mailing them.

That's today's Agribusiness Update from the Ag Information Network of the West.
