Agribusiness Update for Monday 10/27/14

The EPA has requested public comment on the agency's proposal to remove 72 chemicals from the Approved Pesticide Inert Ingredient List. Assistant Administrator for the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, Jim Jones, stated "This is the first major step in our strategy to reduce risks from pesticides containing potentially hazardous inert ingredients." The action is in response to petitions by the Center for Environmental Health, Beyond Pesticides, Physicians for Social Responsibility and others.

MGK will merge with Valent under a marketing agreement starting in April of next year. Valent will manage the marketing and sales of MGK's crop protection line of insect control products within the U.S. Valent Executive Vice President Matt Plitt said "MGK insect control products are complementary and will be sold in an integrated approach along with Valent's existing crop protection portfolio." Valent company officials say the addition of MGK into the Valent portfolio will create an unprecedented mix of unique and valuable chemistries for managing both organic and sustainable agriculture.
