Emiliano Kargieman's company, Satellogic, is in the process of launching a network of as many as 300 interconnected satellites that are dedicated to high resolution images of any point on Earth desired. Imagine 300 satellites in 300 different positions constantly taking images of earth including your farm acreage. All the satellites are talking to one another so the end result is almost instantaneous information on crops growing anywhere on earth."What's the competitive advantage of Satellogic over drones? We do see that both drone technology and what we are doing will have applications for agriculture and we don't necessarily see them as competitors. We think it is complementary to what we are doing. With drones, you have issues around air space, you have issues with the autonomy of the aircraft, you have to collect them on the ground, you have to collect the data and that is a little bit of a hassle. In the end, the cost per acre of land is significant.
