Bill Agler spells out some of the joys and challenges that go along with belonging to a duck club. My tennis friend Bill is always saying he can't play at such and such a time because he's going duck hunting. So one day I asked him to explain this seemingly never-ending preoccupation with ducks and he told me long to a... Listen in. "Bill, I understand that you are a member of a duck club, there is a whole duck club culture and I want you to tell me about. There certainly gives. When I was a kid, my dad along to a duck club and I was able to hunt with him and his father had been a member of a duck club and they hunted and it was just kind of a family thing. I had fond memories of all of that and I was very fortunate to be invited to join a club. We don't have to get up at 2 o'clock in the morning and go out and launch the boat and hope that you can find your favorite spot in the river. We already have a place lined up and we know people already that we are going to be hunting with. Private property and great hunting. Part of the culture too is you have to be willing to sacrifice. There is a fair amount of expense involved since we are leasing private property and the fact that there is maintenance all the time. You have levees that hold the water back and you have these little muskrats that like for holes in the levee, so you have to constantly be working against them. is always worrying about the noxious weeds and keeping the water flow management going.
