Steelhead With Kolby

We're seeing more and more steelhead fishing pictures online as we make our way in to December. I had the opportunity to give Kolby Lewis, Western Oregon fishing guide a call the other day to see how their doing in his neck of the woods, or should I say rivers?

Kolby "Steelhead numbers, chinook were early here this year and I think winter steelhead here on the northern coast have followed suit. They've been around, trickling in over the last month and with this big push of weather, we've had over the last couple of weeks rivers came up to flood stage. You know, 14,15,16 ft which is really high for these north coastal rivers and I'm getting excited because their just coming down into fishable shape and they should be full of steelhead. So with the few that we saw trickling in early in on the season and then with that big rain, high levels of water dropping back into shape I don't know why they wouldn't be there. Down here I'm doing all bait for the most part, every once in a while I get a guy who wants to swing fly's, but on the Oregon coast it's a bait show. We like to run globs of bait and every now and then we'll change it up with maybe a jig or maybe a pink egg but for the most part it's an egg show on spinning rods."

It's fun to hear what guys using across different regions to haul in those big boys, thanks for sharing Kolby.
