Last week we were on the phone with JB, one of the sales associates in Lewiston's Sportsman Warehouse, talking about the best rifle for a young hunter, but what about ammunition? As we all know, Sportsman Warehouse carries a variety of top shelf ammo, with tons of different brands. So, JB what's your professional opinion? Does your ammo really make that much of a difference with deer?

JB "Generally, for deer hunting I don't think it makes that much of a difference. Most ammunition out there now days, is quite capable for deer. There's good bullets, it really doesn't matter until you start getting into the larger game and potentially longer ranges. That the higher quality ammunition starts to make a big difference. I think within 300 yards, most of the stuff you can buy on the shelf is going to be satisfactory. It's just a matter of trying to find a particular brand and bullet weight that the rifle might shoot better than others, because rifles do have preferences for what weights and brands they shoot more accurately."

I'd have to say I agree with you 100 %, the key factor here is understanding what your ammo is capable of. Get out to the range, invest some time and really get to know your set up. Make sure you know the limits of your gun and ammo. The more comfortable you are with your gun and ammo, the more success you'll have in the field. Thanks again JB, we appreciate you and Sportsman Warehouse shedding a little light on this topic.
