Every once in a while, we love to give you some information on hunting and fishing gear. Got some from a real expert, somebody in the field, not a salesman.

Edwin Harpole from Extreme Hunts, an outfitting service in Pike County, IL is a lifetime bow hunter and talks about his preference when it comes to archery with whitetails.

"I have always shot Hoyt bows. I think they are the most consistent. I love a solid lock- in point when you draw the bow. Most others rock a little bit when you pull a full draw. I just always enjoyed them. A lot of guys around here shoot Matthews and I love to be a little bit different. All of the manufacturers make good goals now but I will always shoot a Hoyt as long as I am shooting archery. Most arrows now our carbon's express arrows. There is no special reason for it. They are just good quality arrows and it is relatively inexpensive for the carbon arrows. As a deer hunter you choose to shoot a bow. why did you make that decision as opposed to shotgun, muzzle loader, rifle? The challenge that you experience when you are hunting with a bow and arrow, the amount of deer you see is phenomenal compared to a firearm, you have a lot less pressure in the woods, you see a lot more activity with the deer and other animals in the woods, the interaction with wildlife is unbelievable and enjoyable. Do you think it is more fair to use a bow and arrow as opposed to a rifle? They are all fair. It is definitely more challenging with archery equipment because you have to have the animal within 20 to 40 yards.
