Fathers in the Field's web site states that 37% of this country's children - over 25 million kids under 18 - are growing up in fatherless homes. They live in every community and within reach of every church. We are called to help the fatherless, and now we can. Bob Schmidt, owner of Mack's Lure Inc. which is a great little fishing shop in Wenatchee, WA explains why he is very involved with this organization: " The reason we supported the Fathers in the Field program was for several reasons. I realized that there are a lot of children out there that do not have a father in their life and miss out on opportunities to learn about hunting and fishing and be out there in the field and this is a program that helps eliminate a problem by setting up mentors who can give those kids and experience to get out there and enjoy nature. It gives kids a chance to learn about the outdoors. It is a very legitimate cause and the money goes to the kids not to overhead." Mentor fathers and boys meet four times a month and, using these tools, gain insight and understanding, serve others, worship, and plan a special outdoor activity (camping, hunting, fishing, riding, whatever they decide to do together) so they have a year-end 'rite of passage' celebration to prepare for and look forward to.
