Beef Counts Celebrates One Millionth Serving

This week Washington's Beef community is celebrating Beef Counts Week by serving at three mobile food banks in Central Washington and will give out the millionth serving beef since the beginning of the program in 2010. They will be giving out 3 to 4 pound beef roasts as a part of the fresh food being distributed at these mobil food distributions.

Washington State Beef Commission Director of Digital Strategies Bridget Coon says this program is an opportunity for ranchers, feeders and AgriBeef employees to give to those in need.

Coon: "The beef community who have participated in volunteering at mobile food banks have been really impacted by this experience. They feel blessed to be able to help but also dismayed by the hunger out in the community. Both of those feelings have driving the fund raising and volunteering to keep going over all of these years. To put it in perspective, one 3 to 4 ounce serving of beef provides 23 grams of protein which gets someone really far into their daily need for protein. So when we look at our neighbors that are in need of food assistance — the young children and seniors — that protein provided by donated beef is going to help them stay help and healthy strong and thrive. It is a really meaningful way for the beef community to give back to those in need."
