Keeping a Big Picture Perspective

Keeping a Big Picture Perspective

Regardless of whether you are a commercial cow-calf operator or a seedstock producer it is critical to maintain a big-picture perspective — by focusing on the end-product and end consumers.

Angus breeder Cody Jorgensen says seedstock and cow-calf operations that keep the end-product in perspective will help drive quality through the entire beef business

Jorgensen: "One must keep in mind the end product. The calves that are sired by the bull's genetics that you are selling to these people is what you have to keep in mine. It isn't about how our cattle perform against each other. It is about how our cattle's calves perform in the chain down the road through feedlots and the end user."

Consumers are continual demanding a higher quality beef product

Jorgensen: "I think it is imperative that one must keeps the big picture in mind. The market place is asking for it — they are wanting higher quality cattle and the best way to get that done holistically is to make dang sure that gets done at the seed stock level — so there is really no choices for anything below average."
