Importance of BQA

Importance of BQA

The Beef Quality Assurance Program is an important element in producing safe, high quality beef for our consumers. Nearly 2,000 producers from across the country became Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certified, thanks to the latest free-certification opportunity supported by Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. (BIVI). The program also reached its highest certification completion success rate this year, jumping up to 65 percent. This is good news. University of Idaho Extension Beef Cattle Specialist Dr. Benton Glaze says
Glaze: “As we consider Beef Quality Assurance, we always ought to keep in mind that we are trying to produce a high quality wholesome product for our consumers and end-users. So when we consider that, I think it is important that we always when we have to treat animals when they are sick or require treatment that any products that are used we make sure and follow all label and package directions — that would include things such as dose, the way those products are administer; the location those products are administered in. And I think in terms of location I think the beef industry has done an excellent job over the years of making sure we are getting injections in that injection-site triangle — in the neck region of those animals. If we are able to keep that in mind — we’ll be able to produce that high quality product that our customers are seeking and are accustom to.”
If you have yet to participate in a BQA certification program, contact your state beef organization to find out more details.
