Peterson Farm Brothers Tell Ag Producers to Advocate

Yesterday at the Pacific Northwest Farm Forum Greg, Nathan and Kendal Peterson — fifth generation Kansas farmers spoke to a crowd about their passion for telling their Ag Story through parody song videos on YouTube and other social media channels like FaceBook, Twitter and Instagram. This time of year finds them on the road traveling telling audiences about ag and about telling their ag story as the oldest brother Greg explains
Peterson: “During the less busy time on the farm we travel around the United States and even other countries as well. To give a presentation about joining with us in this advocacy effort and we keep it entertaining as well.”
I asked what advice he would give ag producers considering beginning to tell their story through social media.
Peterson: “Well that is the tip I’d give, to get started. We always think back to when we made our first YouTube video and that was the tipping point — just getting started — just putting something out there. You can build on that. It does take a little initiative and a little effort to get started. You have to kind of put yourself out there but it can lead to impact. For us, we could have never imagined this kind of impact but since we did get started and went after it, and took that first step — it was able to happen.
Speaking of impact — the Peterson Farm Brothers have produced nine parody videos since 2012. Their first video, Farming and I Grow it had more than 5 million views in first eight days of being posted.
