Montana State University's Southern Agricultural Research Center discovered genetically engineered wheat plants in July and now the USDA is launching an investigation. This after the first unauthorized appearance of genetically engineered wheat, discovered on a farm in Oregon in 2013. Remember the furor and backlash to American wheat exporters from international importers like Korea? The USDA has just finished an investigation that took one month and they have released a briefing. Here is U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service spokesperson Bernadette Juarez: "After conducting a thorough and scientifically detailed investigation into the detection last year of genetically engineered wheat growing in a single field on a single farm in Oregon, U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has concluded that the presence of the GMO wheat appears to be an isolated incident. . The GE wheat found on the Oregon farm was developed by Monsanto to be resistant to the herbicide glyphosate, also known as Roundup. said that it couldn't determined how the wheat got on the 125-acre Oregon farm but that it appeared to be an isolated incident. I have another isolated incident to remind our listeners about. 42 year oldThomas Eric Duncan, the first person diagnosed with the Ebola virus on U.S. soil, died at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas October 8. He was an isolated incident alright. And now there is almost panic over another isolated incident...those people who were exposed to Mr. Duncan. How many isolated incidents does it take before isolated becomes epidemic?
