Beef Counts Program Making a Difference

The Beef Counts program provides beef protein to hungry families across Washington and Idaho. The Agri Beef Company, in conjunction with both states’ beef industries, participate in the program through volunteering as well as donating cash and animals to the program. Agri Beef matches the industry’s contributions.
Earlier this week, there was a Second Harvest Food Distribution in Northeast Spokane. Agri Beef’s Alethea Prewett participated as a volunteer and she shares more about this program.
Prewett: “Beef Counts is a program that was started several years ago to help provide high quality, wholesome, nutritious lean beef protein to families that are in need. What we do at these Beef Counts contributions is we bring together members of the beef community. Here in Washington: cattle feeders, cattlemen, agricultural students, people from Agri Beef to help package, label and distribute those roasts that are going out to those families in need to today.”
Earlier this summer Rosauer’s kicked off a program with a BBQ which raised $1,200 for their Buy Beef and Fight Hunger at Rosauer’s program which concluded with this food distribution. Prewett shares more about this program
Prewett: “And when you buy beef a portion of that ticket goes back to buy beef for the Beef Counts Program. So as part of the part Rosauer’s promotion Agri Beef matches what they are able to raise up to $50,000 and so that turns into a lot of servings of beef.”

**At this food distribution, 9,100 pounds of food were distributed to 257 families and 244 beef roasts were distributed.
