Deadline Fast Approaching for Livestock Forage Disaster Program Sign-up

The deadline for livestock producers who have endured disaster-related losses to enroll in the Livestock Forage Program through the Farm Service Agency is by September 30th. Livestock producers — that have experienced grazing losses may be eligible for benefits — but they need to contact their local Farm Service Agency office by the end of the month.
Oregon’s Harney County Farm Service Agency Executive Director Kellie Frank says it is important for livestock producers from disaster-affected counties to sign up for the program.
Frank: “The Livestock Forage Program — basically Harney County has been in a severe drought for the 2012-13, 2014 crop years. So producers in Harney County that have livestock and grazing acres automatically qualify for the program. So we’re just trying to get some money out and help producers due to the loss in the drought that we’ve had since 2012. Basically we just need to be sure that everyone who is interested contact us — either by phone or by stopping the office. We just want to get them on our register — so that following the October first deadline their payments won’t be sequestered due to Congress mandating the payment reduction to take affect because of the new fiscal year. So we just want everyone to come in and notify us prior to that deadline.”
