Chasing the Dream No Matter What

Chasing the Dream No Matter What

I’m KayDee Gilkey and welcome to Open Range. Here’s Greg with today’s report.

Thanks KayDee. Last week we introduced you to Amberley Snyder who continues to barrel race and rope even after an accident paralyzed her from the waist down. Anyone who rides horses knows there is a lot of communication between horse and rider with the legs.

SNYDER: My horses have been really good about it though. I didn’t have anybody else get on them to retrain them, I don’t have anybody else try to teach them anything, I just got on and expected them and me to both figure it out as we went along. And they’ve been so great. I mean, my barrel horse listens. He totally listens to my voice and my hands when I ask him to be doing what I need him to.

Snyder was told that she needed to find another “hobby” but said that was not one of the choices.

SNYDER: It takes a unique type of person that really just want to dedicate themselves to their horses and to rodeo and to what we do. I doesn’t matter what’s against us, if you love it and that’s what you want to do, it’s what you’re doing.

A lot of people would have just said I’m done but Amberley Snyder has instead set her sights high.

SNYDER: I’m still continuing on the college rodeo level right now and next year I have the goal to make the college finals and then on top of that I plan to get my Pro Rodeo permit. I just have to line up with sponsors and a horse in order to do that and so that would be a huge goal that I have to get my permit and start pro rodeoing and one day make the National Finals Rodeo.

I’m Greg Martin and that’s today’s AgriBeef Minute.

Thanks Greg. Don’t forget Greg will be back each Wednesday with the AgriBeef Minute. Agri Beef Co - Real Families, Great People, Exceptional Beef. I’m KayDee Gilkey.
