All of this week Angus juniors and their families have been in Indianapolis for the 2014 National Junior Angus Show. The six-day event is full of cattle shows, showmanship competitions and a variety of educational contests.
For anyone who has participated in a state, regional or even national junior show or field day — you know that these event are family oriented and teach life skills to the participating youth.
Bogess: “The National Junior Angus show is the biggest of the breed associations. This year in Indianapolis we have 1,599 head of cattle and 783 exhibitors.”
That’s Montana Junior Angus Association President Abbi Bogess of Deer Lodge who shares more details of how she got involved in the junior association.
Bogess: “I grew up with commercial cattle and as I got older I slowly got into the registered world. I would not trade it for anything. I love cows and like to go out to the pasture and could look at cows all day long with a smile on my face and not get tired of it.”
She adds
Bogess: “I have a July-born heifer that I bought from Ayres Angus and I show her tomorrow. This afternoon I’m participating in the showmanship which is a pretty prestigious event in the Angus world. You are only allowed to do that once at the national level.”
The event is being live streamed from the angus.org website for anyone who wants watch you can check it out via the web.
