This is your Northwest report for Monday, December 5, I'm David Sparks and this is World Soil Day. How important is soil? Here is Natural Resources Conservation Service information officer out of Portland, Oregon Tracy Robillard. "One of the unique things about planet Earth is our soil and soil is teeming with life in the microorganisms in that soil are what support so many facets of human life. It supports our food and fiber production and it is so critical to take care of that soil and to keep it healthy." An organization named the Soil Health Partnership underscores Tracy's comments. Here are some words from a video they produced. ""Growing food, fuel and fiber today is a high tech endeavor. Technologies like GPS make farming incredibly precise, reducing waste and increasing yields. But, the next frontier in agriculture will not take place above ground. The next frontier is beneath your feet... Soil.

Something spooked a horse named Denver on the wet Brookside trail near Lake Oswego's Iron Mountain Boulevard on Thursday afternoon, causing the 5-year-old to misstep then slide about 100 feet down the hillside.

Miraculously, Denver wasn't hurt, but it did have to wait hours in the loose dirt in the heavily wooded area to be rescued. But it was not alone.
