Is Glyphosate Carcinogenic

Some time ago I had a conversation with Dr. Don Morishita, University of Idaho weed scientist and my main line of questioning concerned the safety of glyphosate: "As you well know Roundup has been around for a long time and these studies on how it breaks down, how long it takes to break down, they have known this for years and years. Granted, the amount of Roundup that is being used compared to the 70s and 80s has certainly increased but it does break down on plants, it isn't building up like people say. Plus, if your body does take in glyphosate, it excretes it in your urine, it is not something that builds up in your body. Your body is pretty good at moving it through because it is water-soluble."

Well that was then and this is now and apparently there must be new findings that are, at the very least, suspicious. The EPA has finalized the membership of the panel that will examine the carcinogenic potential of glyphosate. The list of scientific experts was posted without fanfare on EPA's Scientific Advisory Panel website. The agency also has posted the agenda for the meeting, which will take place Oct. 18-21 at the Office of Pesticide Programs building in Crystal City, Va.

The panel includes four members of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Scientific Advisory Panel, along with nine members appointed specifically for the glyphosate panel. Those nine people are known as the Science Review Board.
