This is your Northwest report for Monday, October 17 I'm David Sparks and The Trans Pacific Partnership doesn't have the best of reputations at the moment, but that is not stopping its proponents from pushing for its passage. Zippy Duvall is the president of the American Farm Bureau Federation and says that while candidates for political office might be speaking out against the deal, they all understand its benefits: “We have two candidates running for office and they will say anything to get that vote. We can have congressmen and senators running for their positions to get votes there and they are not in a mood to talk about it right now. But all of them understand how important trade treaties are to America. Not just farmers and ranchers, but to America.” The deal would bring the US and 11 other Pacific rim countries together. Agriculture is especially interested in the deal because of the growing middle class in many Asian countries. Duvall says the deal should be considered: “I have high hopes, whoever is elected that they will look at this Trans Pacific Partnership and they will move forward and have the opportunity to speak to it.

Elsewhere, The Environmental Protection Agency has postponed its scientific review of glyphosate being a potential carcinogen in order to get additional expertise in epidemiology. The Agriculture Department is advancing a revised set of new rules to tighten regulations on contracting practices in the livestock and poultry industries.
