This is your Northwest report for Thursday, July 28 time David Sparks. National Public Radio reports that National security concerns over allegations that Russia may have attempted to mettle in the US elections are intensifying following remarks yesterday by GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump who encouraged Russian hackers to dig into the emails of his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. NPR's Don Gagne says the comments are drawing criticism from across the political spectrum. "The FBI investigated Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server and concluded there was no basis for criminal charges. Then last week came another email controversy. The Democratic National Committee's system was compromised and embarrassing emails were leaked to the media. US officials say there is evidence that Russia was behind that breach and now Trump says he wants Russia to go after Clinton and her emails to find things she hasn't released. The Clinton campaign responded this has to be the first time that a major presidential candidate has actively encouraged a foreign power to commit espionage against his political opponent."

Elsewhere, from my northwest.com, officials are still investigating after a Sunday night fire shut down the Export Grain Terminal at the Port of Longview. Fire crews responded to the blaze Sunday night.

Longview Fire Chief Phil Jurmu says the fire started inside the drive tower, which powers one of the main conveyor belt systems. The smoke rose up through that tower and spread along the conveyor belt to another tower where grain is weighed.

One firefighter slipped on some stairs and strained his back. No other injuries were reported.

Officials say the fire caused a conveyor belt to split and it wasn't clear when regular terminal operations can resume.
