Back to School & Wage Survey

If you are a part of the ag industry in the northwest you will likely be receiving a post card asking you to go online and complete a survey to provide wage and employment information about migrant and seasonal workers who work in tree fruit, berries, row crop, or other activities. wafla is reminding you to not throw it away and access their website for guidance explaining what the survey is about, what it is going to be used for and how you answer the questions will impact your industry.

It's back to school time for northwest kids and Oregon's chapter of Agriculture in the Classroom continues to build on its success and the 120-thousand students reached in each of the past three years. Executive Director Jessica Budge says kids are generally far removed from the farm these days.

BUDGE: Students today don't really understand, don't have a clear grasp of where their food comes from– be it milk, be it fiber, whatever it is. Students aren't connecting the farm to their food. So that's really where we come in. We try to make those connections because, as we all know, if students and, later, the general public has an understanding of that, our world is going to be a better place and agriculture is going to have a stronger market and a stronger understanding. When those students grow up to be policy makers and lawmakers, they will have a base to fall back on.
